TalentLabII results Exhibition

Next Wednesday, 23th of October 2013, 6 pm, will take place the opening event of the exhibition of the TalentLab II results, at the Residència d’Investigadors (CSIC- Generalitat de Catalunya), Barcelona.

‘TalentLab, Co-creating scientific content with the public’ is a co-creation project that revolves around participatory workshops that put together different communities, in order to co-design new educational and science communication materials. The final aim is to establish new paths of collaboration between the scientific community and society, particularly the educative community.

During this year, and within the framework of the second edition of TalentLab, were organized four workshops. The first three, targeting teachers and researchers, were intended to jointly create an educative online resource. As a result of these sessions, three educational resources were produced. They were highly varied on the scientific topics covered and on the formats used: Ceramic Utensils explores, with classroom activities, the traditional techniques of ceramic production used during the Neolithic; Mission to Mars is a virtual challenge that simulates through a videogame a trip to the Red Planet; Fishing: Then and Now proposes an interdisciplinary research to study the evolution of the fishery activity, by making use of on-site documentation and producing a video to present the results. All these resources intend to put students as the protagonists of the activities, in order to stimulate their research ability, creativity and critical thinking.

On the other hand, the fourth and last workshop Co-creating a scientific exhibition with the public, a workshop opened also to the general public, aimed to involve participants in the design of a scientific exhibition, as an ‘excuse’ to collective think on ways to communicate science to a non-specialized audience. During the exhibition, the conceptual results of this workshop, which was focused on the duality nature-technology, will be presented in a ‘take away’ format.

TalentLab is an initiative of the Unidad de Cultura Científica of the Delegación del CSIC en Cataluña, with the collaboration of La Mandarina de Newton, different CSIC institutions in Catalonia, the Residència d’Investigadors, and with the support of the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología.

The exhibition will open on October 23 at 18pm and can be also visited on the 24th and 25th, from 10h to 13h and 16h to 19h.
